Video Blog: Male Model Makeover®

Are you a male model in the New York City area? If so, you know how competitive it can be! You’re faced with the challenge of keeping up your appearance. The industry demands a youthful appearance with strong facial features and of course a chiseled body. Although you may have all of these things, maybe you’re still having a hard time differentiating yourself and keeping up with the competition.

In this case, Dr. Steinbrech offers various Male Model solutions. The Male Model procedure can include as little or as much as you’re looking to accomplish, including Jaw Augmentation, Hi Def Liposuction, Hi Def Model Pec Enhancement, and Gluteal Enhancement.

Most automatically think of an invasive procedure with a long recovery time. In Dr. Steinbrech’s video, which is just under three minutes, you can see how a male model enhanced his facial features in just 10 minutes! Also, you will learn that Dr. Steinbrech practices in a very natural way. His goal is not to completely change a patient’s appearance, but to enhance natural features. This is evident in the video as it will appear that the male model looks the same, but at the same time his facial features are more prominent and look as though he was born with it!

Please comment below with your thoughts on the video, as we appreciate all feedback very much! Additionally, you may visit our Male Model page for more information on the procedure.

This Gynecomastia infographic was created by Dr. Douglas Steinbrech, premier Manhattan plastic surgeon, to visualize some of the statistics, facts, and available treatments for men. Also, known as man boobs, it is the enlargement of the glandular tissue of the male breast. Gynecomastia is the fourth most commonly requested plastic surgery procedure for men (get more info here).

Thousands of men have suffered for years with shame and embarrassment. This enlarged tissue could easily be confused with fatty tissue, commonly being referred to as “man boobs.” This condition can create serious self-esteem and body issues within a man, in turn severely affecting his social and personal life.

Male breast enlargement causes more complications than just low self-esteem and embarrassment. It can be very painful, causing chronic pain and discomfort, leaving painful lumps and open sores under the nipple. Symptoms often start with breast development and lead to bloody nipple discharge and tenderness, leaving men very confused about what is going on with their bodies.

What is Gynecomastia? A 101 for Manhattan Men

It is an enlargement of the glandular tissue of the male breast. It is also known as man boobs or moobs.

As the fourth most commonly requested plastic surgery procedure for men, these surgeries have seen a 29% increase since 2000. There were over 26,000 of these surgeries in the US in 2014. Common causes vary depending on age. In infants, the mother’s estrogen can cause this condition. In puberty, hormonal changes can encourage breast growth. As men age, causes vary from drug use to disease to thyroid imbalance.

Drugs and Medicine that cause this condition

  • Drugs: Anabolic Steroids (Testosterone), Alcohol, Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Heroin
  • Medicine: Medicine that treats ulcers (cimetidine), medicine that treats epilepsy (phenytoin, Dilantin), chemotherapy drugs, antiandrogen drugs (flutamide, cyproterone, and spironolactone), antianxiety and antidepressant medicines (Valium)

Symptoms

  • • Breast development
  • • Lumps under the nipple
  • • Nipple discharge or tenderness
  • • Bloody nipple discharge
  • • Painful lumps

Complications

  • • Chronic pain/discomfort
  • • Embarrassment and feeling ashamed
  • • Open sores on the skin breast

Treatments

  • Medication: Medicines that block the effect of estrogen in breast tissue.
  • Surgery: Male breast reduction surgery to remove excess breast tissue.
  • For mild cases: Liposuction (incision hidden in the armpit)
  • For moderate cases   Excision of fibers gland (small incision)
  • • F Severe cases: Chest Lift

Gynecomastia Surgery Breakdown

  • Shelf life: Permanent
  • Recovery time: 6 weeks
  • Cost (nationwide average): $5,425 – $8,500 depending on the type of procedure done and location
  • Post-op pain: 4 out of 10 (1 – Excruciatingly Unbearable; 10 – Mild)

The condition is commonly treated with male breast reduction surgery and offers permanent results. In mild cases, liposuction is performed where the excess glandular tissue is removed and excess fat is removed by vacuum suction. For more severe cases, an excision of the fibrous gland will be done along with liposuction. The excess glandular tissue is removed and the areola or nipple is reduced or repositioned to give the chest a more natural appearance. Dr. Douglas Steinbrech understands the importance of your masculinity and is committed to finding the right gynecomastia procedure for you to gain your self-esteem back and obtain a natural and appealing physique.

Keeping Abreast of “Man Boobs” in NYC

“Man Boobs.” You’ve heard the term. What many may not know is that breast enlargement in men is a common and treatable condition called gynecomastia. A more technical, academic definition of gynecomastia (other than “man boobs”) is the swelling of breast tissue in boys or men caused by a hormone imbalance.

Contact Dr. Steinbrech to Discuss Your “Man Boobs” Treatment Today — 646-949-0130

Causes of “Man Boobs”

Indeed, testosterone and estrogen control the development and maintenance of sex characteristics in both men and women, and when the amount of estrogen surpasses that of testosterone, augmented breasts can result in males.

However, hormone changes aren’t necessarily abnormal. In male infants, more than half are born with enlarged breasts because of their mother’s estrogen. Usually, the swollen breast tissue goes away within two to three weeks after birth. Hormone levels fluctuate during puberty as well, and in most cases, the enlarged breast tissue that may result goes down without treatment within six months to two years. The prevalence of “man boobs” peaks again between the ages of 50 and 80, as testosterone levels naturally decline because of aging. In fact, at least one in four men in this age group are affected.

Of course, other factors can have an unnatural effect on one’s hormone levels. Disorders of the male sex organs (testes), such as Klinefelter’s syndrome, can result in decreased testosterone production and relatively high estrogen levels, resulting in gynecomastia. Testicular cancers may also secrete hormones, leading to the development of breasts.

The Psychological Harm of “Man Boobs”

The psychological impact of gynecomastia can be detrimental, especially if the breast enlargement is pronounced. Many young men have suffered through taunting and teasing over their “man boobs” while in high school and college.

According to Derek Silverman, spokesperson for Man Boobs Lab, “Men suffering from enlarged breasts often refuse to remove their shirts around others. Some hide in their homes, as they are so humiliated by the size of their breasts. Gynecomastia affects one’s self-confidence and self-esteem.”

And with beach season approaching, the desire to correct this condition is even more pressing.

Treatment for “Man Boobs” in NYC with Dr. Douglas Steinbrech

Fortunately, male breast reduction surgery can be performed, restoring a flatter, firmer appearance to the male chest and removing the appearance of the dreaded “man boobs.” Dr. Douglas Steinbrech, one of New York’s top plastic surgeons, performs such procedures on an outpatient basis at the JCAHO accredited office-based surgery facility of Manhattan’s Gotham Plastic Surgery. During surgery, glandular tissue is removed from the breasts, and in extreme cases, excess skin may be extracted as well.

Gynecomastia Treatments in NYC

Gynecomstia is not an easy subject for men to talk about. So I’ll do all the talking and hopefully make it easier for the 40-60 percent of men suffering from this disease to take action and erase the taboo surrounded by this topic. Gynecomastia is a hormonal imbalance caused by a lack testosterone or increased level of estrogen in the body. This hormonal imbalance could also be caused by an underlying issue such as a disease, drugs, hormonal changes in the body or it could be hereditary. Moreover, gynecomastia can affect men of all ages. Symptoms of gynecomastia include: excess fat around the breast tissue, excess breast glandular tissue development or a combination of both, tenderness, pain and inflammation of the breast tissue.

Don’t worry if you suffer from gynecomastia or if you think you could be diagnosed – there are plenty solutions to choose from which you can talk over with your doctor and see which one is the right choice for you. Here’s a rundown of the treatments available.

Gynecomastia Treatments

Medications

There are several medications that can help with this gynecomastia. Most medications used to treat gynecomastia actually treat the hormonal imbalance, the main cause of this disease. Such medication includes tamoxifen and raloxifene. Both are antiestrogens, or estrogen receptor modifiers and which also help treat the pain and size of the breast caused by gynecomastia. Astrozole is another medication that could be prescribed to you that stops the creation of estrogen in the body in order to balance out the hormones in the body. Medication should always be taken cautiously due to the adverse reactions associated with the medication and a doctor should closely monitor this type of treatment.

Surgery

Surgery is the most effective treatment to get rid of the physical aspect of gynecomastia.  Depending on your symptoms, a doctor may perform a liposuction to remove the excess fat surrounding the tissue, or

a full mastectomy if the main problem is excess glandular tissue. Both surgeries are performed endoscopically, meaning a less invasive surgery with less recovery time (one week downtime) since only small incisions are used. Both types of surgeries take about two hours and require general anesthesia. Pain killers as well as an antibiotic is prescribed to prevent infection  A compression shirt is used during recovery. The results due to surgery are permanent unless future excess weight is gained and fat gets stored in the breast area.

Compression Vest

A compression vest or shirt offers a immediate physical results, however, it only hides the symptoms, it does not treat the symptoms or the underlying causes of gynecomastia. The compression vest hides the physical alternations to your breast tissue and muscle. The vest is comfortable and non-restricting and it has the main advantage of instantaneously covering the appearance of gynecomastia, however, it does not alleviate the real symptoms of the condition.

For more information about the condition, Gynecomastia, or to schedule a consultation with Gynecomastia surgeon Dr. Steinbrech in the New York City area, please contact us at: 646-949-0130.

The Wall Street Man

wolf_wall_street2

You are your best marketing tool which means you always have to look your absolute best at all times. Dr. Steinbrech helps men advance in their careers by providing them with a powerful marketing tool…a perfect youthful body. His motto: “look the age you feel regardless of what age you are.”

Dr. Steinbrech created a set of treatments specifically geared towards the Wall Street Man– the Go-Getter. This man is the one who puts his job first, works long hours, and has to look top-notch everywhere he goes, always remembering to “dress for the job you want”. However, with all of those long hours, who has time to hit the gym every day? More so, many concerns that men have about their bodies can’t be fixed by working out alone. Aging takes a toll on the body, and to fix those problem areas requires special procedures that Dr. Steinbrech has perfected over his years in the field. Dr. Steinbrech is now an expert in male plastic surgery and encourages men to take advantage of his procedures to improve their lives.

The Wall Street Man Makeover is geared to make you look natural and more powerful. Dr. Steinbrech believes that leaving a few natural wrinkles here and there shows maturity and trustworthiness; very distinguished. This set of procedures includes: neck lift, upper and lower eye-lift, jawline re-contouring, and high-definition liposculpting.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect when going through the experience.

Upper and Lower eye-lift

The area surrounding the eye is one of the first places that shows signs of aging. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, improves the look of both your upper and lower eyelids, making you look younger and energized. All those sleepless nights spent in the office will vanish from your face, leaving you with a rested, renewed you.

A blepharoplasty, less invasive than a full facelift, involves minor incisions carefully chosen in the natural eyelid creases, lower eyelid ridge, and below the lash line. The type of incision necessary all depends on your needs.  Treating the area around the eyelid is a safe and effective way of achieving a younger look which will boost self-confidence.

Neck Lift

With age, skin loses elasticity especially in the neck area which ultimately causes loose skin. Loose skin makes men seem even older than they really are. Dr. Steinbrech’s neck lift surgery allows for the tightening of the underlying muscles in the neck area, and the reduction of fat deposits beneath the chin, erasing the “double-chin” effect that we all hate.

Neck lift surgery includes incisions made around the ear lobe and behind the ears to hide any unwanted scars from the procedure. Post-surgery, you can expect some swelling, numbness and bruising, however, most patients can return to their busy work schedules just two weeks after surgery.

Jawline Re-contouring

A strong jawline gives men a more powerful physical appearance which creates confidence and thus, helps you be more successful. Dr. Steinbrech includes a jawline re-contouring as part of his Wall Street Man makeover, which is a 15 minute, noninvasive procedure that produces male perfection. This procedure involves injectable fillers strategically put in the jaw line to reshape it and create a strong defined chin, which according to Dr. Steinbrech adds 20 lbs. of muscle to the body. If needed, Dr. Steinbrech can also enhance the cheek bones for a more defined look, along with a jaw line re-contouring procedure.

High-definition Liposculpting

This procedure in Dr. Steinbrech’s Wall Street Man look, sculpts the body by removing fat around the abdomen, waist, and hips in order to show off the muscles that are underneath. This creates the appearance of a perfect six-pack and the attractive pelvic lines that women die for. This procedure lasts longer than the other ones in this package, one to five hours, and can be done with either local or general anesthesia, depending on the amount of fat being removed. Even though the procedure itself lasts longer than the others, patients can return to work within a few days but exercise and other strenuous activities should be avoided for about a month.

However you desire to improve your image, Dr. Steinbrech can give you professional advice and get you started in our journey to look like the best version of yourself. Women should not be the only ones to benefit from the advantages of plastic surgery. Men are starting to feel comfortable to get work done and look their very best. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the number of cosmetic procedures for men has increased more than 106% between 1997 and 2012. A strong man knows what he wants and knows how to get it. And it all starts with a simple phone call to make your appointment for a consultation with Dr. Douglas Steinbrech.

Treat Gynecomastia with Male Breast Reduction Surgery

treat-gynecomastia

We tend to look at aging with a sense of dread and recognize that as we age, there are things each of us will face that are unpleasant, yet unavoidable byproducts of getting older. These things vary from person to person and we tend to chalk them up as “inevitables.” While this may be true about many physical and cosmetic problems, it isn’t true across the board.

One of these supposed “inevitables” for men is enlarged breast tissue, often insensitively referred to as “man boobs.” Medically, this condition, known as Gynecomastia, is very common among men, affecting between 40 and 60 percent of the male population. Contrary to popular understanding, it isn’t simply a matter of aging or something indicative of a lack of exercise or physical fitness. Men of all ages struggle with enlarged breast tissue and the subsequent embarrassment, emotional distress, low self-esteem and avoidance of intimacy that often come with it.

Many men reading this right now are facing this and have talked themselves into believing that it’s something with which they have to live with. Although there can be comedic approaches to the issue, for men struggling with excess breast tissue, it’s no laughing matter.

The causes of Gynecomastia can range from a genetic predisposition to it the side effect of a drug, disease, or hormonal change. Understanding the root cause isn’t only important for men struggling with it, it’s also important because it provides a means of treating it effectively through breast reduction surgery uniquely tailored to each individual man with the condition.

I know, what some of you are thinking… “Surgery! Yikes!” Relax. Modern cosmetic medicine is far less scary or complicated than it was in years past. Besides, does the idea of surgery frighten you more then the prospect of continuing to live with enlarged breasts and the subsequent embarrassment that come with them? Male breast reduction is typically a general or local anesthesia liposuction procedure, which may include the removal of excess glandular tissue. On average the surgery lasts approximately two hours and patients will need to wear a special compression garment during recovery to support the new contours of their chest. This recovery period typically lasts about two weeks and the results are permanent, the results of any future weight gain notwithstanding.

Once you’ve owned up to how strongly you feel about freeing yourself from the psychological and emotional burden you are bearing (or NOT bearing in the case of your enlarged breasts), you need to research your options and find a reputable surgeon who can help you. If you live in the NYC area, Dr. Douglas Steinbrech is a top-rated plastic surgeon and expert in the practice of male breast reduction surgery. Visit our Gynecomastia page for more information and to find out if male breast reduction surgery is right for you.

The 5 Benefits of CoolSculpting for Men

You’ve heard the traditional advice to lose weight and improve your appearance over and over again: diet and exercise. Diet and exercise, the cure all that does not always cure all. No matter how much you diet, or how much time you put in at the gym, you almost definitely have parts of your body that don’t look the way you want them too. Maybe it’s just one small pocket of fat, but for whatever reason, you can’t manage to lose it.

Now, there’s a solution: CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting removes fat easily, naturally, and painlessly. CoolSculpting uses your body’s natural processes to destroy and remove fat cells in targeted areas with no negative effects on surrounding cells and tissues.

Cells in your body are naturally destroyed when they are exposed to extremely cold temperatures. CoolSculpting takes advantage of this natural bodily function by specifically targeting fat cells and exposing them to freezing temperatures. The procedure kills the cells quickly and easily. The entire treatment takes just one hour.

For 3-4 months after treatment, your body will naturally absorb the dead fat cells and eliminate them via your natural metabolic process. All the while, all of the surrounding tissues and cells remain unharmed and function 100% as normal.

Here a few benefits CoolSculpting has to offer:

  • There’s no needles involved. CoolSculpting is completely non-invasive. There is no cutting, needles, or pain of any kind. If needles make you uncomfortable, or you want to go completely pain free, CoolSculpting is a good option for you.
  • No surgery is required. CoolSculpting is a fully non-surgical option. Treatment is performed completely on the exterior of your skin. Best of all, you will not need anesthesia, or any other medications to get through the procedure.
  • No downtime involved. If you can’t miss work, CoolSculpting takes just one hour and you can return to work immediately after. In fact, feel free to go right to the gym after the procedure. There are no post treatment restrictions, and you’ll leave feeling refreshed and renewed. In fact, most people are so comfortable during the procedure that they work, read, or nap during their hour with us.
  • It’s FDA cleared. The new technology behind CoolSculpting has been FDA approved and is completely safe for use.
  • It’s safe and clinically proven. CoolSculpting can be used safely and effectively. With just one session, you will see an average reduction of 25% of fat from the treated area. If you are not satisfied after the first treatment, it’s safe to receive the treatment again just two months after your first visit.

For more information, visit our CoolSculpting page!
