Male Rhinoplasty

What is Male Rhinoplasty?

Often referred to as a “nose job” male Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that alters the shape or size of a person’s nose. Unlike treatments that feature dermal fillers, Rhinoplasty is an invasive procedure that offers more dramatic (and permanent) results. This can include adding implants to one’s nose, removing nose cartilage, or sculpting the nasolabial folds to create a more elegant appearance to your nose. Male Rhinoplasty is the specific practice of doing surgical procedures on men who want to have their nose appearance permanently altered.

When it comes to a person’s face, very few things will impact its appearance like a nose. A nose that looks graceful will frame your face well, while a nose that doesn’t quite suit the face can make an otherwise attractive man look unattractive. Nothing quite helps a man’s profile look masculine like a strong nose, which is why most men find having the right nose to be a huge “make or break” feature.

Believe it or not, the nose is one of the most common facial features that men feel the most self-conscious. Many men who have larger noses or noses that aren’t quite shaped correctly end up feeling very insecure about it-and rightfully so.

What’s The Difference Between Male and Female Rhinoplasty?

Men and women have very different bodies, and when it comes to needs, they also differ greatly. Men tend to want stronger noses that have a straight downwards slant. Women tend to want to decrease the size of their nose and add a slight uptick to their nose’s slant.

Plastic surgeons need to know different techniques to ensure aesthetic success for each gender. This leaves most men at an impasse. The vast majority of rhinoplasty surgeries are performed on women, but that doesn’t mean it’s a female-exclusive procedure.

Men can and do get nose jobs. Around 1 out of every 10 rhinoplasties is done on a man. To get the kind of results you want, you need to find plastic surgeons who have ample experience and knowledge when it comes to performing male rhinoplasty.

Who is a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Men choose rhinoplasty because they want to alter the shape of their noses. Whether it’s due to being born with a larger nose, or due to damage caused by an accident, male rhinoplasty is a good solution to aesthetic issues. In some cases, rhinoplasty can also help men breathe easier at night and alleviate sleep apnea. People who have deviated septums are strongly encouraged to get rhinoplasty as a way to improve their ability to breathe well.

The benefits of rhinoplasty include:

  • Better self-image
  • Easier time breathing during day-to-day activities
  • A better overall appearance
  • Better sleep quality

How Is Male Rhinoplasty Performed?

Every single rhinoplasty procedure will be slightly different, based on the patient’s wants. To fully understand the patient’s goals, your doctor will ask crucial questions during your consultation. Once they understand what your goals are and how you would like your nose to look, they will draw up a plan on how to create that effect.

Rhinoplasty itself is performed under general anesthesia, under the command of a skilled surgeon. After anesthesia is administered, the surgeon will make the necessary changes needed. If you have had breathing impairments, then internal surgery will also be performed at this time.

Then, any openings will be closed via very carefully placed sutures. Most procedures will only take one to two hours on operating tables. From there, the healing process will begin. The nose will be supported with splints and bandages.

In most cases, the biggest side effects you will experience will include swelling, pain, bleeding, bruising, and a “stiff” feeling in your skin as you recover. Typical patients will be able to remove bandages within a matter of days, with full recovery taking a maximum of five days.

From there, your doctor will give you a routine checkup to ensure that the procedure went well.

Who’s A Good Candidate for Male Rhinoplasty?

Getting Rhinoplasty is a very attractive option for people from all walks of life, but that doesn’t mean that all people are qualified to get it. Doctors say that the ideal candidate for male Rhinoplasty is a man who has the following traits:

  • Is in reasonably good health
  • Has enough bone and cartilage to sustain rhinoplasty alterations
  • Wants to alter the shape of their nose for functional or aesthetic reasons
  • Has time to recover from surgery
  • Has reasonable expectations about results

Recovery Time

Most male patients typically take around 6 full weeks to heal. The patient should refrain from strenuous exercise for 1 to 2 months following surgery. As a general rule of thumb, most patients will have a splint or bandage for at least one week.
