What Causes Male Breast Enlargement?

Male breast enlargement may have genetic roots or may be caused by external factors. Oversized breasts are common side effects of hormonal imbalances in male infants and during puberty, and in most cases, the condition resolves on its own. However, some men are not as lucky because they continue to be bothered by man boobs well into their adulthood and until they do something about the condition.

Male breast enlargement in adults can be the unwanted side effect of thyroid, kidney, liver and/or testicles disorders. Being overweight is one of the common causes of the condition. Sometimes epilepsy, ulcer, anti-anxiety and/or anti-depressant drugs or undergoing chemotherapy can cause man boobs. Abuse of alcohol, marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, and anabolic steroids can also lead to male breast enlargement.

If man boobs are caused by an underlying medical condition, doctors first try to manage the disease. In all other cases, gynecomastia resolves the problem, usually once and for all. The results are dramatic; take a look at some gynecomastia before-and-after photographs.

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a surgical procedure to correct the problem of male breast enlargement. During this procedure, the surgeon removes excess fat or tissues or both from the breast area. Depending on the severity of the condition, the surgeon may make a small incision in the armpit to suck out the fat or make a larger incision around the nipple and also do a chest lift.

Male breast reduction surgery is a minimally-invasive procedure. It takes around two hours to complete the procedure and is carried out under local or general anesthesia. Generally, it is performed on an outpatient basis, so you can be back home the same day.

Unless you put weight back on or your medical condition that had caused your breasts to enlarge recurs, gynecomastia produces permanent results. This is the greatest benefit of a surgical procedure that has minimal downtime, just about a week.

What to Expect During the Gynecomastia Recovery Period?

You will have to wear bandages and a compression garment for some time after the surgery till you are healed. These will keep swelling to a minimum and also help define the new contours of your chest. As it is with any other surgery, you might experience some pain during the gynecomastia recovery period. Do not worry, the pain will be mild, and your surgeon will prescribe medicines to help you cope with the discomfort.

After the bandages come off, you will notice a firmer and flatter chest. The scars fade away on their own over time. However, you should resume physically demanding activities like lifting weights and doing gym workouts after you have healed completely.

In a fashionable and appearance-conscious city like New York, gynecomastia gives you the chance to overcome your imperfections and become a part of the “beautiful” crowd. Beware, you will be watched closely by the fashion police during the upcoming festival season. Get ready to wow others by getting rid of your man boobs. Go in for a gynecomastia now, wear the bandages and compression garments under the cover of your woolies and jackets, and emerge as a transformed man, brimming with confidence.

Get 6-Pack Abs Like Your Favorite Player This NFL Season

You may not cheer for the New England Patriots, but you can’t deny that Tom Brady has the best 6-pack stomach in the game. If you have been working out like a maniac, then you have probably realized by now that the quickest and the best way to get 6-pack abs and a chiseled body is to go in for abdominal implants and a gynecomastia surgery. Look at some of the other hot bods of the game—Eli Manning, Eric Decker, or Colin Kaepernick. They all have proportionate bodies with well-defined buttocks that perfectly balance their hunky torso. So if you want to bulk up in time for the coming NFL season, consider butt implants for men.

How to Get 6-Pack Abs

Your favorite football star has a 6-pack stomach because he spends so much time in the gym, but can you? In fact, dieting or working out for hours on end is also not the best way to get 6-pack abs if your genes are working against you. If you want to flaunt toned and chiseled abs quickly and without dropping dead exhausted at the gym, go in for abdominal implants.

During the Silicone 6-pack® procedure, the surgeon removes stubborn belly fat, sculpts the muscles and tissues in the area, and inserts implants. These implants are soft and move around when you move to give you a more natural look.

Inserting abdominal implants is the best way to get 6-pack abs because the side effects of the procedure are minimal and subside within a week after the surgery. You can get back to your active life within a few days and resume gym workouts within a few weeks.

What is Gynecomastia?

Male breast enlargement is more common than you think. Whether caused by genes or as a result of side effects from drugs, man boobs take away from the chiseled look that you so desire. Fortunately, gynecomastia surgery is an outpatient procedure that can cure male breast enlargement.

Gynecomastia treatment or male breast reduction surgery can range from liposuction to a chest lift depending on the nature of your condition. The results of a gynecomastia cure are evident immediately and you will recover and can get back to being active within a few weeks after the surgery.

Why May You Need Butt Implants?

Contrary to popular notion, celebrity butt implants are not done by women alone. Working out at the gym and lifting heavy weights develop the muscles in the arms, chest, and legs but do not bulk up the buttock region. Male butt implants impart a fuller look to the buttock region to balance out the brawny look at the front.

Gluteal enhancement or buttock augmentation is a perfectly safe procedure that involves taking fat from one part of the body and injecting it in the butt area. This gives a more natural look than inserting silicone implants.

You may not have the playing skills to show off during the upcoming football season, but you can certainly flaunt a footballer’s chiseled and toned body without much effort. A 6-pack stomach is just about getting some abdominal implants. A gynecomastia specialist will help you get rid of your ungainly man boobs while male butt implants can give you the well-proportioned body of a seasoned body-builder. Now get a wardrobe makeover to show off your perfectly-sculpted body.

It is an enlargement of the glandular tissue of the male breast. It is also known as man boobs or moobs.

As the fourth most commonly requested plastic surgery procedure for men, these surgeries have seen a 29% increase since 2000. There were over 26,000 of these surgeries in the US in 2014. Common causes vary depending on age. In infants, the mother’s estrogen can cause this condition. In puberty, hormonal changes can encourage breast growth. As men age, causes vary from drug use to disease to thyroid imbalance.

Drugs and Medicine that cause this condition

  • Drugs: Anabolic Steroids (Testosterone), Alcohol, Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Heroin
  • Medicine: Medicine that treats ulcers (cimetidine), medicine that treats epilepsy (phenytoin, Dilantin), chemotherapy drugs, antiandrogen drugs (flutamide, cyproterone, and spironolactone), antianxiety and antidepressant medicines (Valium)

Symptoms

  • • Breast development
  • • Lumps under the nipple
  • • Nipple discharge or tenderness
  • • Bloody nipple discharge
  • • Painful lumps

Complications

  • • Embarrassment and feeling ashamed
  • • Open sores on the skin breast

Treatments

  • Medication: Medicines that block the effect of estrogen in breast tissue.
  • Surgery: Male breast reduction surgery to remove excess breast tissue.
  • For mild cases: Liposuction (incision hidden in the armpit)
  • For moderate cases   Excision of fibers gland (small incision)
  • • F Severe cases: Chest Lift

Gynecomastia Surgery Breakdown

Keeping Abreast of “Man Boobs” in NYC

“Man Boobs.” You’ve heard the term. What many may not know is that breast enlargement in men is a common and treatable condition called gynecomastia. A more technical, academic definition of gynecomastia (other than “man boobs”) is the swelling of breast tissue in boys or men caused by a hormone imbalance.

Causes of “Man Boobs”

Indeed, testosterone and estrogen control the development and maintenance of sex characteristics in both men and women, and when the amount of estrogen surpasses that of testosterone, augmented breasts can result in males.

However, hormone changes aren’t necessarily abnormal. In male infants, more than half are born with enlarged breasts because of their mother’s estrogen. Usually, the swollen breast tissue goes away within two to three weeks after birth. Hormone levels fluctuate during puberty as well, and in most cases, the enlarged breast tissue that may result goes down without treatment within six months to two years. The prevalence of “man boobs” peaks again between the ages of 50 and 80, as testosterone levels naturally decline because of aging. In fact, at least one in four men in this age group are affected.

Of course, other factors can have an unnatural effect on one’s hormone levels. Disorders of the male sex organs (testes), such as Klinefelter’s syndrome, can result in decreased testosterone production and relatively high estrogen levels, resulting in gynecomastia. Testicular cancers may also secrete hormones, leading to the development of breasts.

The Psychological Harm of “Man Boobs”

The psychological impact of gynecomastia can be detrimental, especially if the breast enlargement is pronounced. Many young men have suffered through taunting and teasing over their “man boobs” while in high school and college.

According to Derek Silverman, spokesperson for Man Boobs Lab, “Men suffering from enlarged breasts often refuse to remove their shirts around others. Some hide in their homes, as they are so humiliated by the size of their breasts. Gynecomastia affects one’s self-confidence and self-esteem.”

And with beach season approaching, the desire to correct this condition is even more pressing.

Treatment for “Man Boobs” in NYC with Dr. Douglas Steinbrech

Fortunately, male breast reduction surgery can be performed, restoring a flatter, firmer appearance to the male chest and removing the appearance of the dreaded “man boobs.” Dr. Douglas Steinbrech, one of New York’s top plastic surgeons, performs such procedures on an outpatient basis at the JCAHO accredited office-based surgery facility of Manhattan’s Gotham Plastic Surgery. During surgery, glandular tissue is removed from the breasts, and in extreme cases, excess skin may be extracted as well.

Gynecomastia Treatments in NYC

Gynecomstia is not an easy subject for men to talk about. So I’ll do all the talking and hopefully make it easier for the 40-60 percent of men suffering from this disease to take action and erase the taboo surrounded by this topic. Gynecomastia is a hormonal imbalance caused by a lack testosterone or increased level of estrogen in the body. This hormonal imbalance could also be caused by an underlying issue such as a disease, drugs, hormonal changes in the body or it could be hereditary. Moreover, gynecomastia can affect men of all ages. Symptoms of gynecomastia include: excess fat around the breast tissue, excess breast glandular tissue development or a combination of both, tenderness, pain and inflammation of the breast tissue.

Don’t worry if you suffer from gynecomastia or if you think you could be diagnosed – there are plenty solutions to choose from which you can talk over with your doctor and see which one is the right choice for you. Here’s a rundown of the treatments available.

Gynecomastia Treatments

Medications

There are several medications that can help with this gynecomastia. Most medications used to treat gynecomastia actually treat the hormonal imbalance, the main cause of this disease. Such medication includes tamoxifen and raloxifene. Both are antiestrogens, or estrogen receptor modifiers and which also help treat the pain and size of the breast caused by gynecomastia. Astrozole is another medication that could be prescribed to you that stops the creation of estrogen in the body in order to balance out the hormones in the body. Medication should always be taken cautiously due to the adverse reactions associated with the medication and a doctor should closely monitor this type of treatment.

Surgery

Surgery is the most effective treatment to get rid of the physical aspect of gynecomastia.  Depending on your symptoms, a doctor may perform a liposuction to remove the excess fat surrounding the tissue, or

a full mastectomy if the main problem is excess glandular tissue. Both surgeries are performed endoscopically, meaning a less invasive surgery with less recovery time (one week downtime) since only small incisions are used. Both types of surgeries take about two hours and require general anesthesia. Pain killers as well as an antibiotic is prescribed to prevent infection  A compression shirt is used during recovery. The results due to surgery are permanent unless future excess weight is gained and fat gets stored in the breast area.

Compression Vest

A compression vest or shirt offers a immediate physical results, however, it only hides the symptoms, it does not treat the symptoms or the underlying causes of gynecomastia. The compression vest hides the physical alternations to your breast tissue and muscle. The vest is comfortable and non-restricting and it has the main advantage of instantaneously covering the appearance of gynecomastia, however, it does not alleviate the real symptoms of the condition.
